Instead of adding products one by one, you have the option to import your whole product catalog using a CSV file. Imported information will include all the available details on all the products and categories that exist in your shop, including names, SKUs, descriptions, prices, and more. This guide isn't for current Brizy Shop owners who want to add new items or update hundreds of products with new information like stock levels, bulk discounts, or specific shipping settings; rather, it's for those who want to move their product catalog from another e-commerce platform like Shopify, WooCommerce, or Etsy.
Import basic product details
Before proceeding to import your product catalog, kindly delete all dummy products that came with your Brizy Shop. As the next step, let's import basic product details of a sample product using a CSV file.
- Download the Product-catalog-import.csv file we have prepared for you
- Under CMS > Project Settings > Shop > Import & Export, import the sample CSV file by clicking on the "Import File" button and select the CSV file you have downloaded
- In the "Import Preview" screen, select the "Start Import" button. Kindly disregard details about ignored columns, rows, and cells.
- When the import process completes, you will see a "File Imported" notification
Add Product Options and Variations
The downloaded sample CSV file contains basic product details. If the products in your catalog need a more complicated data structure, with multiple product options, product variations, and attributes, kindly define a master product with all the data you wish to import. If your products do not have options and variations, skip this step and proceed to the heading "Add Product Categories".
- Under CMS > All Products, review the sample products that were imported and click on the name of a product
- Under the "Options" tabs, add additional product details like Product options and variations manually. For more detailed instructions, refer to our guide on Product Options
Add Product Categories
The next step is to add product categories and assign categories to sample products.
- Add your product categories under CMS > Products > Categories manually. You also have the option to import your product categories using Product-Categories-Import.csv file.
- Assign an appropriate category/categories to your master product
Generate CSV Data File
Now you are ready to generate a CSV file that has all of the data fields your Product Catalog requires. Except the master product, delete all products in your Brizy shop by clicking the trash icon next to each product. Scroll down to the "Export product catalog" heading under CMS > Project Settings > Shop > Import & Export, then select the "Export Catalog" button.
A CSV file containing your master product's details will be downloaded as a result. This CSV file will have a data structure that is appropriate for the products in your catalog, depending on the additional details you have added to your master product. This file could be named Product-Catalog-Import.csv.
Compile Product Basic Data
The time has now come to populate your Product-Catalog-Import.csv file with the details of all the products you wish to import to your shop. While CSV files are useful for storing data, they lack formatting like alignment, text wrapping, appropriate column and row widths that make data compilation easier. Feel free to save the CSV file in a spreadsheet format like Excel (XLSX) and format your spreadsheet following the procedure at https://jmp.sh/qSH6INnz
Add Product Options and Variations
Once you have compiled basic data of your products, you must also add product options and variations to all your products in the spreadsheet. Product options and variations have been added to your master product so far. Now, the same or similar product options and variations must be added to all other products in your catalog.
Kindly sort your products based on the "product_sku" column (the third column) in your spreadsheet. You will see the product options and variations associated with your master product. (The following screenshot has only product options and has no variations)
Note: If you have more than a few hundreds of products in your catalog, adding product options and variations manually using the spreadsheet may not be ideal. You may need the "Bulk Product Editor" app from the App Market. |
Copy all the rows with product options and variations and and paste it at the bottom of the spreadsheet and replace the SKU of the first product with that of the second product following the procedure at https://jmp.sh/KeW44iWI. This will add all product options and variations to the second product in your catalog.
Repeat the above step for every product in your catalog to add the same product options and variations to all products. If some of your products have different options and variations, make appropriate changes in your spreadsheet
Import Product Catalog
Once you have added appropriate product options and variations to all products in your spreadsheet, let's remove a few rows and a column to make your spreadsheet ready for the final data import.
- The "product_internal_id" column is used when you want to update details of existing products in your Brizy Shop. Since you are importing new products, kindly delete this column.
- Since you have already added categories, kindly delete all rows with the type "category" in the first column.
- Now save your spreadsheet file in CSV format. If you are unsure of the data integrity of your CSV file, you could make a copy your CSV file, delete all products except 2-3 and do a test import and review the products that were imported.
- When you ready to make the final data import, delete all test products in your Brizy Shop. Under CMS > Project Settings > Shop > Import & Export click on the "Import File" button and select the Product-Catalog-Import.csv file.
- In the "Import Preview" screen, select the "Start Import" button.
- When the import process completes, you will see a "File Imported" notification
