Existing Brizy popups broken after update, while newly created popups work normally

We are experiencing a problem with existing Brizy popups on easyriders.com following a Brizy/Brizy Pro update.

Current behavior

Existing popups no longer function correctly on the frontend:

• The existing Newsletter popup opens, but once it appears, the entire popup becomes unresponsive.
• The close icon has no hover response and cannot be clicked.
• Form fields and other elements inside the popup also cannot be clicked.
• The visitor is effectively trapped behind the popup.
• Other existing popups, including the Age Gate and Easyriders Archives popup, do not launch at all.

Important test result

I created a completely new test popup and connected it to the same Newsletter button.

The new popup works correctly:

• It opens normally.
• The close icon responds to the mouse.
• It closes correctly.
• The rest of the page remains usable.

This suggests that the current Brizy popup engine and button trigger are working, but the existing popup records or saved layouts are not.

Additional testing completed

I have already tried the following:

• Updated Brizy and Brizy Pro to their current compatible versions.
• Tested older Brizy versions.
• Disabled SiteGround Optimizer.
• Disabled Wordfence.
• Disabled our custom Inkling Scripts plugin.
• Cleared SiteGround server cache.
• Tested in an Incognito browser window.
• Changed the existing popup trigger and display conditions to basic settings.
• Duplicated the Newsletter popup and tested the duplicate.
• Made a small edit and republished the existing popup.
• Installed and ran Layout Recompiler for Brizy.
• The recompiler completed successfully for all 80 Brizy items with zero failures.

The duplicated Newsletter popup has the same unresponsive behavior as the original. Changing its trigger conditions does not fix it.

What we need help determining

Could you please inspect the existing popup data and determine whether an update or migration damaged the saved popup structure, interaction layer, or popup metadata?

Because brand-new popups work correctly while all existing popups remain broken, we would prefer to repair or migrate the existing popup records rather than manually rebuild every popup.

Please also let us know whether this is a known issue affecting popups created with earlier Brizy versions.

We can provide administrator access or create a SiteGround staging copy for testing.

  Hi Chad,

  Thank you for contacting us.

  Please try using the Layout Recompiler for Brizy plugin on your staging site first. The plugin will recompile all Brizy layouts, including pages and popups, and may help resolve the issue. 

  

  1. Install and activate the Layout Recompiler for Brizy plugin on the staging site.
  2. Go to Tools -> Layout Recompiler in the WordPress dashboard.
  3. Click Start Recompilation.
  4. Allow the process to finish completely.
  5. Clear any WordPress, hosting, CDN, and browser caches.
  6. Check the affected popup again.

  Please try this and let me know how it goes.

  I stated in the previous email I tied that ;)  Thanks for making that btw but that didn't solve the issue.

  I found a working workaround for the affected popups:

  1. Open the original broken popup.
  2. Save its design as a Brizy template.
  3. Create a completely new popup.
  4. Insert the saved template.
  5. Recreate the trigger and display conditions.
  6. Publish the new popup.

  The new popups work correctly on the frontend. Duplicating the original popup did not work, so it appears duplication carries over the corrupted popup data or metadata, while inserting the design template into a new popup creates a clean popup record.

  I have successfully restored the Newsletter, Age Gate, and Archives popups using this method.

  I found that the popup designs themselves are not the cause. Newly recreated popups work until certain triggers are added. The Newsletter popup breaks other popup interactions when set to display after the visitor reaches their second page. The Archives popup also fails when using the 20% scroll trigger, but the same recreated popup works correctly when changed to page load after five seconds. Button-triggered popups also work correctly. This appears to be a conflict in Brizy’s advanced popup trigger handling rather than corrupted popup content.
