Lock a Block feature

I would really like to be 'lock a block' (perhaps with a padlock icon as used elsewhere) so I could temporarily make a block 'UN-EDITABLE' so as to prevent accidental changes being made - perhaps a more sophisticated feature would be to 'lock out' certain types of users or even individual 'editors'.
