Menu URLs missing the / sign between site name and page name
Hi,
I recently started to use the TranslatePress plugin to translate my website into French. Since today, the main menu on the site (https://meetafrica.travel) doesn’t work anymore. I get this error when I click on any item in the main menu:
This site can’t be reached
meetafrica.travelresponsible-travel’s server IP address could not be found.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
You can see that the URL it is looking for is missing a / between meetafrica.travel and responsible-travel which is the name of the page I clicked on from the main menu.
I created another menu and replaced the old one, it worked for a few seconds and then I got that same error.
The menu on the French version works perfectly fine, you can try with this URL: https://meetafrica.travel/fr.
I played with the options in TranslatePress and found out that by setting the “Use a subdirectory for the default language” option to No, the menu works fine. However, I don’t want to keep this setting to No for SEO reasons.
I updated the TranslatePress plugin today so this may be related to this new version.
I will appreciate any help on this.
Thanks.

Hi,
I checked now the site and all seems to work fine. See here https://jmp.sh/Hqb0eoU. Could you please try to check again? Did you change something?
Thanks!

Hi Sandra,
As explained, the problem only occurs when the “Use a subdirectory for the default language” option in the TranslatePress plugin is set to No. For now, it is set to Yes so that the menu works.
I recorded the issue so that you can see it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7xwsp7fm8ql02zf/Screen%20Recording%202020-09-21%20at%209.36.16%20PM.mov?dl=0
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I'm sorry for the late response. Could you please check this situation on the non-Brizy page? Also, could you please try to deactivate all external plugins and activate a WP default theme and check again this inconvenience?
Thanks!
Best regards,

Hi Sandra,
I deactivated all plugins except Brizy, Brizy Pro, and TranslatePress. I also changed the theme from Core Child (ThemeFuse) to Twenty Twenty, the standard WP theme. The problem still persists, i.e. the menu doesn't work anymore.
Then, I deactivated TranslatePress and the menu worked fine. I put it back and it didn't work again.
Can you help? Thanks.

Hi,
I'm not sure that this problem is related to Brizy because when you have set the "Use a subdirectory for the default language" option and access one menu item then the URL link is changed as I can notice from the video you send us. Brizy can't change or modify the URL of the site/page, it can be changed by an external plugin or the theme. Please, create a non-Brizy page make sure that there is added the menu element and try to test it with the "Use a subdirectory for the default language" option.
Also, could I ask you why do you want to use this option? Thanks!
Best regards,
Sandra0 -
Hi Sandra,
I created a non Brizy page as suggested. The page works fine and switching from the 2 languages works fine as well. When I go to a Brizy page, the problem occurs when I start playing with the language switchers. I made a video so that you can see the problem.
It looks like the problem is connected to Brizy Pro.
Also, the problem occurs when the option "Use a subdirectory for the default language" is set to No. I don't want to set this option to Yes for SEO reasons.
Thanks.

Hey all,
I have the same problem.
Any news on this?
I am not sure this is related to Translate Press, although I have the plugin installed, too. But deactivating the plugin, deleting all caches and reloading, does not resolve the problem!
Switching the "Use a subdirectory for the default language" to No (or yes) does not resolve the problem, either.
In addition to the Info given by Thierry:
The slashes missing occurs only in the menu. Links within text still work correctly.
My menu is a global menu set up within brizy. Deleting the menu and setting it up anew does not help.
The slashes do not get deleted on all pages. On some pages the menu works oben some the slashes get stripped.
My website is https://www.goetz-naleppa.de/en
within news, the navigation works, all others do not.
This is really unnerving because I had this a few times before (even on other sites – all made with brizy) and sometimes it occurs sometimes it works flawlessly. So to find a solution is really impossible on my end…
Any help would be appreciated!
Kind regads

Hi there,
I want to inform all users from this post that the problem that appears on the TranslatePress when the menu URLs are missing the "/" is already solved. We plan to release the fix in one of the future updates. We will strive to release it in the next update but I can't promise this.
Thank you for understanding and patience!
Best regards,

Hi there,
The problem is only solved when the update reaches us and is proven to work. Until then it is not solved. Just like our clients will find it unacceptable when we tell them that their site is "already translated" ie "in the future when the bugs are fixed but I can't promise this."

Hi Sandra, it is good to hear, that the problem is solved.
But do you really think any of the users who have to wait for that solution, will be glad, that it is taking so long to be a able work with brizy as multi language editor?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your efforts ;-)
Is it that big a problem, to roll this out asap?
kind regards
achim

Bug reported 7 months ago
Sandra repots, the problem was fixed by Brizy 3 months ago
How many months to get the fix released?
Do you think is normal to discuss bug fixing time not in days or weeks but in .... months?

Hi Carlos,
The issue with the URL link when is using TranslatePress is already fixed and it is released from version 2.2.5 of Brizy Free. Three months ago, we informed users that this problem is fixed and in the next update we already added the release.
