Carousel element vs archives element
What is the difference between the carousel element and the archives element?
I am a beginner with all this. The two elements seem pretty similar. When would you use one vs the other?
Thanks

Hi Kamila,
Yes, these two elements are different. The Archive element can be used only in templates because it works only with Dynamic content. In this way, the Carousel element can be added also in Pages and isn't necessary to activate for it the Dynamic Content. Here you can add manually text, image and other elements you need.
Another difference is that Archive elements will select all posts from all categories, but if you activate Dynamic Content for Carousel element you will need to select a category.
Let me know if I can help you with something else!Best regards,

Ok, so if I was going to make a page with all of the latest posts then should I make a template and use the archive element? Or should make a page and use the carousel element and set it to dynamic content?
Thank you!!!0 -
In this case, I don't recommend using the Archive element. I suggest adding in the page the Carousel element or Posts element. To display all posts, I can recommend adding for all posts one extra category and after this to select it for Posts element or Carousel element.
Thanks!

Oh ok I see. So add a category like "all posts" and add this to all posts and then choose it for the posts or carousel element?
So what is the difference between the posts or carousel element? Is the posts element automatically dynamic as well?
And when SHOULD you use the archives element?
Sorry for all the little beginner questions! Thanks for your patience!0 -
Hi Kamila,
Don't worry, feel free to ask as many questions as you have. It is my pleasure to help you!
Yes, right, you can create a category like you said "all posts" and add it to all posts and then choose it for the Posts element or Carousel element.
The difference between Posts and Carousel element is that Posts element is a static element that works exclusively with Dynamic Content and it can be structured in columns and rows. The Carousel element has a structure similar to a slider and it isn't working exclusively with Dynamic Content, you can use it as a simple slider of elements. This element isn't structured in rows. It has only one row that has the ability to slide to other elements.
The Archive element is recommended to be used in templates for Archive pages.

Thanks!
Ok but is an archives page not the same as a latest posts page? I thought the archives page is like a library or history of all your posts. So is that not the same as a page with a posts element showing all the latest posts?
:P0 -
Hi Kamila,
No, Archive page is a different page. It is an important page that every theme should have it. Here you can find more details regarding this type of page https://woocommerce.com/posts/archives-page/
Thanks!

For an archives page, is there a way to add a sort of list by month and year?
I have seen this on other peoples' archive pages.
Thanks!

Hi,
In the template for Archive pages, you can add a WP sidebar with "Archive" widget. Therefore in the Archive page, you will be able to select the month/year and display all posts from that month/year. For this you have to:
1 - Go to WP dashboard -> Appearance -> Widget;
2 - Create a sidebar and add there the Archive widget, like here;
3 - Go to template for Archive page;
4 - Add the Sidebar element:
5 - Select the right sidebar, like here. Also, I want to add that t isn't possible to customize the Sidebar element in Brizy editor because elements (widgets) from the sidebar are provided from different sources (theme, plugins) and all of them are rendered by WordPress in its style based on its technology. When Brizy import the content from the sidebar, it takes it in such a way how the WordPress give it and it is impossible to change these styles. The content is only indirectly related to the document's main content. The technology of the Sidebar doesn't allow to customize it.
Best regards,
Sandra0 -
I see. So if I am using the Brizy Starter Theme then do I need to download another plugin to get the sidebar to display nice in such a style?
Thanks

If you want to style the Archive widget, you can do it using the Custom CSS. In this article, you can find how to do this.

Hi! Me again.
I left it for some time and am back to it. Still trying to get my head around all the archive stuff.
So I have created an archive template but now I am confused as to how to get it to display on my archive page. Building the template seems the same as building a page but now I do not know how to transfer what I have created in the template to display on the archive page.0 -
Hi,
The template and a simple page are 2 different things and the process of creating a template is different than the process of creating a page.
If you want to create a template for Archive page and trying to do this, could you give more details about this? What display conditions did you add? What are the elements do you want to display there? Did you create the Archive page?
Thanks!Best regards,
Sandra0 -
So I added the "archive" element and the "sidebar" element on the template.
And I am not sure how to display the conditions? I just want the archive page to look like this template?
Right now the display conditions say: Include > Pages > Archives
and Template Type says: Single.
What does the template type mean? When should it be "single" and when should it be "archives".
Is there any way for you to look at mine?
Thanks

Hi,
At the moment we have a problem with the template set for Pages -> Archives and isn't possible to set a template with this display condition Include -> Pages -> Archive but our developers are investigating it and will solve this problem.
Regarding what is template type and "Single page" and "Archive".
You can create templates for single pages/posts and Archive pages. With "Template type" want to say exactly this. You have to select ho will be rthe template you create.
The template type "Single" - means the template for a page/post from a group of pages/post or pages that are single for example 404 page. For example, you want to create a template for all posts (or some posts), therefore you will create a template type "Single" because all posts (or some posts) will have he same design, the structure you will create in the template.
The template type "Archive" - means a template for Archive pages. In this case, you create the template for an Archive page such as Category Archive page, Tags Archive page, Search page, etc. If you create a template type "Archive" with the Display condition "Include - Category - All", in this case, you create a page with all posts of a certain category and when you will open the page of the category "Travel" (for example), you will see there all posts has added in the "Travel" category. One big difference between template type "Single" and template type "Archive" is that in the Archive template it is recommended to add the Archive element but in the Single template you have to add other Dynamic elements such as Posts, Excerpt, Title etc, that will offer you the possibility to create the single page.

Ahhh.. Ok I see. So maybe I do not need this Archive template right now for what I am trying to achieve?
If I just want an Archive Page that shows a carousel of the latest posts and then a sidebar which displays them in order of date then I could just make a single page for this?Thank you so much for your patience.

It isn't fully recommended because when will be accessing the "true" Archive page then will be opened the Archive page with the theme template but in this case, I want to ask you with what purpose do you want to design the Archive page? If I know this, I may offer you the better solution for you.
Thanks!Best regards,
Sandra0
