External Popups: clicking elements should behave like closing the pop-up.

I have a popup on a site, configured to show only on its homepage. The popup has 2 links on it. It's set up to only show once. It shows up fine, I can click one of the two links and that all works fine, but if I revisit the homepage, the popup reappears. 

The only way it doesn't, is if I explicitly close it (hit the X). 

Maybe some people like that behaviour (not sure why) but there should be an option at least that if I click a link, I no longer need to see the popup again.
