HTML DOWNLOAD - Some Images Are Being Created With Extn .x-empty and 0KB Filesize
Hi Brizy Support,
Hopefully this will be an easy fix - I see that someone else has reported the same or very similar issue.
I use the Html download facility within Brizy Cloud to download my site in html and then upload the html files to 3rd-party server via ftp. The domain with the issues is www.NewTestamentSalvation.org.
As can be seen from the homepage (index.html), there are a couple of blank boxes where images should be. The left-hand image for e.g. is attempting to link to https://www.newtestamentsalvation.org/assets/73514f4ce396b51f18dcbdbd9c54d5d4.x-empty which is just a .png image of the book cover. The file has been uploaded OK to the server, but it has a 0KB filesize, so is showing as 'file not found'.
This site and the html download facility have been working fine for months, but after not making any new uploads for a few days I tried it today and encountered this problem for the first time. The site and the missing images are working fine within the Cloud editor itself (i.e. prior to running the HTML download facility) and the images also appear when publishing direct to the Brizy server. The problem seems to just be with the html being created by the Html download facility.
I noticed that the image box file within the Brizy Cloud editor has options of 'custom' and 'original' and I have tried running the html download facility with both options but the result is the same.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Geoffrey,
My apologies for the delayed response.
We have come across a similar issue on this link: https://support.brizy.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/15901230527121
I would recommend checking out the solution suggested by my colleague, as it may be applicable to your situation as well.If you have already tried the suggested solution, and it has not made any difference, please let us know.
Best regards,

Hi Ariel H,
Thank you for your response. I checked out the suggested link but although an upload issue was resolved, the problem with the empty image file was actually not resolved in that conversation.
I have tried a couple of other things : (1) I tried duplicating the project and publishing the duplicated project using the HTML download facility, but the problem with the .x-empty image files remained, and (2) I republished a completely different (older and much larger) project with many images, and the problem with the .x-empty image files did NOT occur.
I therefore wonder whether the problem is only associated with HTML produced by more recent versions of the Brizy Cloud editor - and possibly only when an image is used as a link to a downloadable file??
Any further ideas would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Geoffrey,
Images containing diacritic signs and spaces in their names do not work well with HTML Export option. The solution is to rename the original images without diacritic marks or spaces and re-upload it to your Brizy Cloud project and then generate the HTML Export file again. For example,
- If the file name of an image you have uploaded to your Brizy Cloud project is medallas sin fondo.jpg please rename it to medallas-sin-fondo.jpg and re-upload to your Brizy Cloud page.
- If you have uploaded an image with the file name Sessão-Promo-Video-Brasil-Médicos.jpg rename it to Sessao-Promo-Video-Brasil-Medicos.jpg and re-upload it to your Brizy Cloud page
Once you re-upload all the images, please generate the HTML Export file and publish it to your server.

Hi George,
Super job! As per your last remarks, I can confirm that the issue with 0KB .x-empty image files from html download was immediately resolved by simply removing spaces from the image file name and re-uploading. Excellent!
Thank you for your help.

Hello again George,
I am sorry to trouble you again on this issue, only the issue of image files with a 0KN file size has reappeared on my other, larger and older site at www.ChristianLiberty.org.uk - as can be seen from the homepage the logo (for e.g.) at top left is missing. The logo image referenced for this upload had a filename of christianlibertyv46.png and this same file using this same filename uploads OK to my other newer site at NewTestamentSalvation.org. There are many other images missing (please see further down the page where the Brizy carousel feature is used) - mostly those have a filename with a hyphen in them - such as democracy-small.png - but I don't think this is significant as these files also do not appear when renamed to, for e.g., democracy_small.jpg or even democracysmall.jpg.
Although this issue is essentially the same as before, this time the html download is NOT producing files with a .x-empty extension, however the files are still being produced with a file size of 0KB. As before the images appear successfully both within the Brizy editor and when the site is previewed.
Any thoughts on resolving this issue would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Geoff,
Can you please mention the preview URL and the Project Name of your Brizy Cloud project?

Hi KCG,
Thank you for your prompt response.
The project name is "The Christian Liberty Party" and the preview url is "https://therefsprty.brizy.site/".

Hi Geoff,
Brizy Cloud projects that were initiated before Feb 2021 follow the older project format. The 'Christian Liberty Party' project is developed using the older Brizy Cloud project format. This could be reason why many images are not working well in its HTML Export.
Is hosting this website on Brizy Cloud using the custom domain an option for you?

We have the same problem and are managing several projects both ones we have to FTP and some where we have Brizy host the project. This image download problem began at some point between our last FTP push on May 19th, 2023 and the first reporting of this issue by fellow Brizy clients. With there not being a problem prior to our last push, it would seem that something changed on the Brizy end, not an issue with the filename of images which also appears to have been confirmed by Geoff since after he made the changes to the file name for image as was recommended by Brizy.
What is being done on the Brizy end to resolve this issue and when can we expect it to be completed?

Hi Niels,
We have fixed this issue. Images containing diacritic marks and spaces in their names can be uploaded to Brizy Cloud and the HTML Export option should work fine now. On specific projects, if HTML Export is not working please let us now the Project Names and Preview URLs.
Images in the HTML Export will not work for projects that were created before Feb 2021. You will have to recreate the older projects in the current Brizy Cloud project format.

Hi KCG,
I wondered whether the issue might be connected to the older status of this project. However html download for this project has been uploading/accepting these same images with the same filenames until the last few days - have changes perhaps been made very recently that have broken html download for older projects?
On the option of hosting on Brizy using a custom domain - I have always preferred using this option as it is simpler and cheaper (not requiring the services of a 3rd-party webhost). However after downloading the html files created by Brizy, I need to run my own programs against the files so that id tags etc. are inserted into the html in order to create a search page (for all the manifesto pages) and to create 600+ additional Brizy pages (1 for each UK constituency). This has always meant that I have been unable to take advantage of the Brizy hosting option.
My basic site consists of only about 30 (rather text-heavy) pages or so, so recreating the project in a newer version of the Brizy cloud might be an option - however, will this mean laboriously attempting to recreate all the text and styling for each individual page manually from scratch? A process that would probably take several weeks! Or is it possible to simply transfer the project to a newer version of Brizy Cloud some other way? - perhaps using the 'Save Layout' option for each page from within my current old project and then importing that saved layout into a newly created project within Brizy Cloud?
Thanks.

Hi Geoff,
While we have fixed the image issue for the current Brizy Cloud project format, the issue persists for the older projects.
If you save each page of your older project as a layout and import one page at a time to the new project, the HTML export will work again.

Hi KCG,
OK, thank you for that - obviously, its not a pain-free solution, but (provided modified global styles work OK - I haven't got round to trying them yet) your suggested workaround is doable. As a final question on this issue, do you know whether Html download not working on older projects is likely to be a permanent problem or are there efforts or plans to attempt to resolve it ?
Thanks again.

Hi Geoffrey,
We can help you with the migration process since you have many pages. I can help in
- Transferring designs to the new project
- Copy pasting Global styles to the new project
- Setting up the menu and global blocks in the new project
Only a few people use the old Brizy Cloud project format, and only a small percentage of those use the HTML Export option. As a result, a long-term solution is doubtful.

Hi KCG,
It seems that - not unusually - I am travelling the 'road less travelled'!
I thought that the dropping of html support for older cloud projects may well be the case, so I am semi-prepared for the additional work involved. And in regard to this, thank you very much for your kind offer to help with the migration process.
I have made a start by starting a new project called "CLP" as the new version of "The Christian Liberty Party", and this new site has a preview url of https://fig17220599.brizy.site. Unfortunately, the old site used the global style called "Keynote" which is not available in the newer project format, but after searching Brizy help I was able to modify the included global style called "Graceful" so that it exactly reproduces the form of the old site's homepage. Hopefully, these style modifications will persist OK as all the new pages are added to the new project.
Encouraged by this little success, rather than needlessly waste your valuable time, and so that I can learn in detail how the new project format works in regards to menus, global blocks, site css and javascript, in the first instance, I think it probably best that I attempt to transfer the site myself, but if its OK, I may well come back to you if I get thoroughly bogged down on something.
Many thanks for your kind assistance to date.
Geoff
